Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the oldest herbal systems in the world with a tradition going back to the 3rd century BC.
One reason suggested for its longevity is that is has continually developed and evolved in response to changing clinical conditions.
Because of its clinical effectiveness and systematic approach, it has had an enormous influence on Eastern medicine practises and has, more recently, experienced rapid growth in the West. In China, herbal medicine is provided in state hospitals alongside Western medicine.
Chinese Herbal Medicine includes all oriental medical traditions from Southeast Asia with origins in China.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is considered to be a ‘complete medical system’ capable of treating a wide range of conditions and includes acupuncture, herbal therapy, diet and exercises in movement and breathing (tai chi and qi gong).
Chinese Herbal medicine, along with other parts of Chinese medicine, is based on the concepts of Yin and Yang as it aims to correct the imbalance between the two caused by blockages in a persons Chi or Qi.
Perhaps the greatest strength of Chinese Herbal Medicine is the emphasis it places on lifestyle and preventing disease before it occurs.
