Personal and Professional Development (or Life Coaching) has its roots in executive coaching, which drew on techniques developed in management consulting and leadership training.
Life coaching also draws on a wide variety of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, career counselling, mentoring, and various other types of counselling. Coaches usually apply mentoring, values assessment, behaviour modification and modelling, goal-setting, and other techniques in assisting clients. While many coaches have qualifications in psychology or other disciplines, their activities are often distinguished from counsellors, whether in psychotherapy or other careers.
In practical terms, Life Coaching can help when you just can’t make a decision or you don’t know which direction to take. Life Coaching can be a guiding light helping you to make decisions that are right for you. Sometimes when we process information and events we get a little jumbled and “can’t see the woods for the trees”. With effective Life Coaching, a path can be cleared, or often several paths; then you have positive choices and options and can become much more resourceful.
