Reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China although it was only in 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West which he called ‘Zone Therapy’ after he realised that ‘reflex’ areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and vital organs in the body.
In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham furthered ‘Zone Theory’ into what is currently known as Reflexology through her observations that tension or problems in parts of the feet were mirrored in the corresponding parts of the body.
As a complementary therapy, Reflexology also takes an holistic approach to health and works not only on healing visible symptoms, but also works to heal the whole person by restoring or maintaining the body’s natural equilibrium which, much like Naturopathy, allows the body to restore itself.
Reflexology can be effective in dealing with:
-
Back Pain
-
Migraine
-
Infertility
-
Arthritis
-
Sleep disorders
-
Hormonal imbalances
-
Sports injuries
-
Digestive disorders
-
Stress-related conditions
